In this book Newberry\u00a0once again \u00a0demonstrates how she is the master of poetic storytelling as it relates to the human experience. \u00a0As her word imagery tells the tale of life the pot\u00a0stews\u00a0with a\u00a0magical\u00a0blend of aromatic metaphor. \u00a0 The ebb and flow of metaphor within the poems of <em>Where it Goes<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Newberry is as simple, efficient and effective as economy of motion in nature. \u00a0 Much like\u00a0when the apple drops from the tree\u00a0to the ground and the recognizable thump is heard from a distance. \u00a0 Thus making her word imagery as \u00a0illustratively significant to her poetic storytelling as the parables are in telling the tale\u00a0of the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Newberry with a touch of genius in the poem <em>A Day in the Death of Metaphors<\/em> starting on page 68 \u00a0of <em>Where it Goes\u00a0<\/em>brilliantly\u00a0teaches us all about the use of metaphor within poetic storytelling, she writes &#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I&#8217;m sick of metaphors. \u00a0 All the stories and poems and essays are making me tired. \u00a0They don&#8217;t mean what they say or they use curlicues and asterisks to say it. \u00a0No, no metaphors not at least in this poem.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And later on in the poem she writes &#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Damn! \u00a0I already broke my promise (the &#8220;kite-wise&#8221; thing, an obvious metaphor).<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then lastly she writes &#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I have licked the frosting off the 21st century, as I&#8217;ve lived it so far, and (oh hell! another metaphor. \u00a0I&#8217;m not even as good as my word. \u00a0I&#8217;m sorry: I tried). \u00a0What&#8217;s left is the end of this poem, which I hope has had its moments.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>All this, all these words with a minimum of metaphors just to say that I am worried&#8211;for you, for me, for the most and least worthy of us. \u00a0I guess it is best, just to assure you that tonight, when you are finished reading this,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>you can turn out the light and close your eyes and, if you too are worried, know that I can give you this: you are not alone.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Where it Goes a<\/em>s with all the other books of poetry Martina Reisz Newberry has written over the years, you never feel alone; but through Newberry&#8217;s word imagery seasoned with the right amount of \u00a0metaphor, \u00a0the reader visually becomes a part of and lives the poetic storytelling experience. \u00a0 I read this book from front to back\u00a0without putting it down &#8230;.. \u00a0I highly\u00a0recommend this same type of experience to anyone who wants to live the poetry of Martina Reisz Newberry. \u00a0 One of the greats \u00a0!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>~Keith Alan Hamilton~<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 120px; height: 240px;\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&amp;OneJS=1&amp;Operation=GetAdHtml&amp;MarketPlace=US&amp;source=ac&amp;ref=tf_til&amp;ad_type=product_link&amp;tracking_id=natureiq-20&amp;marketplace=amazon&amp;region=US&amp;placement=0990428702&amp;asins=0990428702&amp;linkId=3EBZLD35LVFSAON3&amp;show_border=true&amp;link_opens_in_new_window=true\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehamiltongalleryonline.com\/blog\/?page_id=384\">Martina&#8217;s Featured Artist page<\/a> at The Hamilton Gallery ~ Online.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehamiltongalleryonline.com\/blog\/?page_id=384\">https:\/\/www.thehamiltongalleryonline.com\/blog\/?page_id=384<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The book of poems, Where it Goes lends further testament to\u00a0why its author Martina Reisz Newberry is one of the great present day poets.
